TOOL: This is a typebar/keylever ball peening pliers. It is a typewriter repair tool advertised in the AMES typewriter tools catalog.
USAGE: It is used for creating a "peen" or reforming the typebar to fix individual characters (letters) out of alignment. It can either help adjust printing on paper and fix light print of individual characters. Used to fix characters which make holes in the paper (keys travelling and hitting too far) or fix characters with light print (keys not reaching the cylinder).
We use it often in our typewriter repair workshop to align characters.
This tool comes from the Olympia Wilhelmshaven factory in Germany which has been closed down for many decades.
